Wassily Kandinsky was a Russian painter and art theorist. He is credited with painting one of the first recognized purely abstract works Born in Moscow, Kandinsky spent his childhood in Odessa, where he graduated at Grekov Odessa Art school. He enrolled at the University of Moscow, studying law and economics. Successful in his profession, he was offered a professorship at the University of Dorpat Kandinsky began painting studies (life-drawing, sketching and anatomy) at the age of 30.(Source: Wikipedia)
Composition 8 is my favorite Kandinsky; His goal was to paint what music sounds like.
As the name implies, it is the eighth in a series of paintings, begun in 1911, in which the artist expresses what he is trying to achieve. Kandinsky wanted to explore the medium of painting rather than be concerned with subject matter. (source: Totally History)
